Activity description
Preterm labor management can be a significant challenge for health care professionals providing perinatal care. This activity will provide a comprehensive overview of preterm labor, including its pathogenesis, diagnosis and current management strategies. It will discuss the edge of viability for infant survival and focus on maternal and fetal outcomes of preterm labor. Participants will examine critical considerations for infants born between 22 and 24 weeks, including the hospital course, complexities of care, survival rates and how to implement a multifaceted approach to care.

Target Audience
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners, PAs and physicians who have an interest in preterm labor and extreme prematurity.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the pathogenesis, diagnosis and management options for preterm labor and review maternal and fetal outcomes.
- Discuss the edge of viability for infant survival, focusing on specific considerations and hospital course for infants born between 22 and 24 weeks.
- Recognize the short- and long-term outcomes of infants born at the threshold of viability (between 22 and 24 weeks), including survival rates, aspects of care and associated challenges.
