RN READY: Updates on Neurologic Conditions with Respect to US Practice
Activity description
This activity aims to provide nurses with an overview of neurologic conditions, focusing on traumatic brain injury (TBI) and dementia. Participants will review the pathophysiology of TBI, discuss diagnosis and management strategies and examine the types, severity and implications of various injuries. The complexities of dementia will also be reviewed, including types, risk factors and current management practices. This activity will equip nurses with the knowledge necessary to align the standards of care for these conditions with those of US health care practices.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the diagnosis and initial assessment of TBI and the different types of TBI based on severity, location and type of injury.
- Identify the signs and symptoms of TBI, primary and secondary brain injuries and the immediate care priorities for patients with TBI.
- Distinguish between various forms of dementia and delirium, recognize early signs of dementia and discuss screening methods necessary to facilitate timely and accurate diagnosis.
- Describe current pharmacologic treatments and non-pharmacologic interventions for dementia as well as the role of personalized, patient-centered care in the effective management of these conditions.

Credit designation statements
Nurses (PRC – Philippine Council of Nursing)
This activity is accredited by the Professional Regulations Commission – Continuing Professional Development. It is worth 3.00 PRC CPD Units as prescribed by the PRC-CPD council for the profession of Nursing. This activity will take ~2.5 hours to complete.
PRC CPD units will be issued ~30 days after the learner has completed the activity and has been validated.
Nurses (ANCC – US Nursing CPD)
The participant will be awarded up to 2.50 contact hour(s) of credit for attendance and completion of supplemental materials.
Nurse practitioners
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP) accepts credit from organizations accredited by the ACCME and ANCC.
Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be provided to learners upon completion of activity requirements, enabling participants to register with licensing boards or associations that have not been pre-approved for credits. To apply for credit types not listed above, participants should use the procedure established by the specific organization with which they wish to obtain credit.
