Navigating the Transition to ICD-10: Critical Updates for Effective Billing and Reimbursement

The pending transition to ICD-10 CM (International Classification of Disease, 10th Revision, Clinical Modification) requires significant education for health care professionals surrounding changes in coding, documentation, and reimbursement.

This activity has been developed to provide physical health care providers with the information they need for effective billing and reimbursement in the new ICD-10 environment. Topics to be reviewed during this activity include: an overview of the new coding conventions, the use of the coding book and mapping tools, and an explanation regarding the requirements for ICD coding on claims.

The goal of this activity is to provide the most appropriate information about changes in the ICD to allow physical health care providers to navigate this transition.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this activity, participants should be able to:

  • Review changes in ICD coding related to the transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 for physical health care providers
  • Gain an understanding of the use of the new ICD-10 coding book and mapping tools
  • Explain the requirements for claims and submissions related to ICD-10
  • List additional resources to assist in the transition to ICD-10
