This live webcast is designed to equip primary care providers with the essential knowledge and skills to effectively screen, diagnose, and manage dementia in their patients. Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of dementia, including its various forms and stages, and learn practical strategies for its early detection and initial management. The activity will delve into the amyloid hypothesis and its implications for treatment and will review potentially modifiable risk factors that can influence the progression of the disease.

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, PAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and other HCPs who have an interest in learning about dementia.

At the end of this webcast, participants should be able to: 

  • Define dementia, as well as its various types and stages and modifiable risk factors.
  • Identify strategies to evaluate patients for dementia.
  • Describe the amyloid hypothesis and its role in the pathophysiology of dementia.
  • Review management strategies for dementia, including current and emerging treatments targeting amyloid plaques.

About the presenter
Naomi Lin, MD, MA, FAAN, is a neurologist, practicing at Optum, Arcadia, CA, for 16 years, board certified in neurology and in neurophysiology. She received her medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin, did her residency training at UC Irvine, and her neurophysiology fellowship at Cedars Sinai/UCLA. She specializes in general neurology, neurophysiology (EEG, EMG procedures); treats multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, headache, and dementia; and performs botulinum toxin injections. She has been a PI for Legacy HealthCare Partners/industry neurology research projects, a leader in developing organizational protocols for neurologic therapy, and trains neurologists in botulinum toxin injections. She enjoys giving continuing medical education talks on neurology topics. She serves as associate medical director for specialty at Optum San Gabriel Valley Region in California.
