High-value Interventions for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for the Primary Care Provider
Activity description
This webcast will equip primary care providers with the latest evidence-based strategies for managing COPD. Attendees will explore high-value interventions that can significantly improve patient outcomes and quality of life, including the appropriate use of inhaled corticosteroids, the benefits of pulmonary rehabilitation, and effective patient counseling on vaccinations. Attendees will also learn how to select suitable patients for supplemental oxygen therapy and discuss recently approved medications for COPD.
This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, PAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and other HCPs who have an interest in learning about the management of COPD.
At the end of this webcast, participants should be able to:
- Review the indications and potential harms of inhaled corticosteroid use in patients with COPD.
- Discuss the benefits and implementation of pulmonary rehabilitation for COPD patients.
- Identify strategies to effectively counsel COPD patients on the benefits of vaccinations.
- Describe parameters for identifying appropriate patients for treatment with supplemental oxygen.
- Explain the indications and value considerations for recently approved medications for COPD patients.

About the presenter
Dr. Curtis Sather is Senior Medical Director for the Optum California market. He joined HealthCare Partners in 2010 after earning his medical degree at UC Davis and completing post-graduate training at UCLA-Olive View and Cedars-Sinai. He is board certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Disease, and Critical Care Medicine, and enjoys spending some time each week seeing patients in the clinic and hospital.
His current market roles include leading inpatient Utilization Management and Employee Health.
His wife, Mary Ellen, is an IPA pediatrician. They have two teenagers. The Sather family enjoys taking full advantage of all the outdoor, entertainment, cultural, and sporting events Los Angeles has to offer.
