Women have unique health issues that can include pregnancy and its associated conditions. Early and regular prenatal care most often results in healthy pregnancy outcomes. Improving the conditions in which women live and the quality of their social interactions, as well as regionalization of health care, are needed to optimize the care of women and neonates with specialized, high-risk conditions. This series of topics will address a wide range of conditions, health behaviors, and health systems indicators that affect the health, wellness, and quality of life of women during pregnancy and their subsequent newborns.
