RN READY: Updates on Metabolic Disorder with Respect to US Practice: Diabetes Care Guidelines
Activity description
This educational activity is designed for nurses seeking to deepen their understanding of diabetes mellitus and align their management of this complex condition with US health care practices. Participants will explore the pathophysiology of type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes, including associated risk factors. A detailed review of diagnostic criteria, including the use of various glucose tests and glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) levels will be provided. Management strategies emphasizing lifestyle interventions, pharmacologic therapy and rigorous monitoring protocols will be examined. Additionally, this activity will cover the identification and management of diabetes-related complications, aiming to foster preventative health care practices.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the pathophysiology of different types of diabetes mellitus, including type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes and identify the risk factors associated with each type.
- Discuss the criteria for the diagnosis of diabetes, including the interpretation of laboratory values.
- Explain management strategies for diabetes, focusing on lifestyle modifications, pharmacologic treatments and blood glucose level monitoring to prevent complications.
- Recognize the potential complications of diabetes, including cardiovascular, neuropathic, nephrologic and ophthalmic risks and the importance of regular screening to mitigate these complications.

Nurses (PRC – Philippine Council of Nursing)
This activity is accredited by the Professional Regulations Commission – Continuing Professional Development. It is worth 3.00 PRC CPD Units as prescribed by the PRC-CPD council for the profession of Nursing. This activity will take ~2.5 hours to complete.
PRC CPD units will be issued ~30 days after the learner has completed the activity and has been validated.
Nurses (ANCC – US Nursing CPD)
The participant will be awarded up to 2.50 contact hour(s) of credit for attendance and completion of supplemental materials.
Nurse practitioners
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Program (AANPCP) accepts credit from organizations accredited by the ACCME and ANCC.
Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be provided to learners upon completion of activity requirements, enabling participants to register with licensing boards or associations that have not been pre-approved for credits. To apply for credit types not listed above, participants should use the procedure established by the specific organization with which they wish to obtain credit.
