Competency in the early recognition, identification and treatment of ADHD in young patients is essential for pediatric primary care clinicians. Pediatric primary care providers should recognize ADHD as a condition requiring chronic care. This activity will discuss ADHD, including ASD, the long-term impact of ADHD pharmacotherapy, and how to create a treatment plan for ADHD, including the use of off-label medications.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of physicians, PAs, nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, case managers, counselors, family therapists and other HCPs who have an interest in learning about practical approaches when treating children diagnosed with mental health conditions.

  • Create a treatment plan for ADHD, including the use of off-label medications.
  • Evaluate patients with ADHD and other comorbidities, including ASD.

About the presenter
Dr. Yamini Rao is a primary care pediatrician who specializes in mental health. She completed her medical school training at Vanderbilt University and her primary care focused pediatrics residency at University of California San Francisco. While working in primary care pediatrics, she saw the massive gap in pediatric mental health care resources. Motivated to help her community, Dr. Rao pursued further training in pediatric mental health through the REACH Institute, the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, ECHO Colorado, and the Sunfield Institute for Autism. At her previous primary care clinic in Colorado, Dr. Rao helped build an integrated behavioral health program. She currently works with Lyra Clinical Associates focusing on psychiatric medication management for patients across the United States. Dr. Rao is dedicated to expanding access to pediatric mental health.

Social workers
ACE LogoAs a Jointly Accredited Organization, Optum Health Education is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Counselors and/or marriage and family therapists

Other States: If your state is not specifically listed, nearly all state Counselor and MFT boards accept either APA or ASWB approval, or are reciprocal with other state licensing board approvals. Check with your board to be sure.
