Precision in Osteoporosis Care: From Assessment to Personalized Treatment and Beyond
Activity description
This activity consists of a recorded presentation from the "33rd Annual National Conference" held October 14-16, 2024, in Bloomington, Minn It is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, psychologists, physicians, PAs and social workers.
This activity will delve into the multifaceted landscape of bone health, exploring not only osteoporosis but also conditions that contribute to bone loss, including chemotherapy-induced bone loss and osteoporosis associated with liver disease. Various conditions that intersect with bone health and evidence-based updates in osteoporosis diagnosis and management will be discussed, including current screening recommendations, diagnostic criteria, emerging treatments, and monitoring recommendations.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Recognize updates in the diagnostic criteria and screening recommendations for osteoporosis.
- Describe how other conditions intersect with bone health and contribute to bone loss.
- Identify the benefits and risks of various interventions, including safety profiles and efficacy in reducing fracture risk, and their role as first-line or second-line treatments.
- Review current data for osteoporosis agents, novel treatment options and future implications for practice.
- Discuss best practices in formulating personalized treatment plans that consider patient preferences, comorbidities, duration of therapy and long-term risks.
