Next-Generation Gene Therapies in Hematology and Oncology
ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION
This activity consists of a recorded presentation from the "Essentials of Oncology and Transplant Management for the Health Care Team" conference held in Scottsdale, Ariz., April 11-12, 2024.
Gene therapies for disease management, whether through new gene transfer or targeted genome editing (such as with CRISPR/Cas9) have dramatically increased in number over the past few years, with twenty FDA-approved gene therapies as of June 2023 targeting the treatment of hematologic disorders (such as thalassemia and hemophilia), hematologic cancers (including B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia and large B-cell lymphoma) and stem cell transplantation protocols; many more are in the pipeline. Join this session for a comprehensive update on the latest advancements in genetic therapies for hematologic disorders and cancer. Key developments, clinical implications, roles in treatment paradigms, challenges and future prospects will be examined.

In support of improving patient care, this activity has been planned and implemented by Optum Health Education. Optum Health Education is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
Credit designation statements
This activity was planned by and for the health care team, and learners will receive 1.00 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credits for learning and change.
Physicians
Optum Health Education designates this enduring activity for a maximum of 1.00 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
PAs
The American Academy of PAs (AAPA) accepts credit from organizations accredited by the ACCME.
Pharmacists/Pharmacy technicians
This activity is approved for 1.00 contact hours (0.10 CEUs) in states that recognize ACPE.
Attending the full program will earn 1.00 contact hours (0.10 CEUs).
