Activity description
Addressing the multifaceted nature of patients’ wellbeing requires an understanding of the value of integrated medical and behavioral health care in providing holistic and high-quality patient care. This activity will delve into the significance of combined physical and behavioral health treatments on patient outcomes and discuss the key components of evidence-based integrated behavioral health models. Participants will also examine hurdles to adopting these integrated models, including systemic and cultural barriers, to better enable them to advocate for and navigate the provision of whole-person health care.

About the presenter
Tristan Gorrindo, MD, is the chief medical officer for Optum Behavioral Care, a national behavioral-health-care delivery system. He is a national expert in behavioral health care transformation, particularly as related to value-based care, the Collaborative Care Model, and interprofessional care of those with serious mental illness. Dr. Gorrindo has served on numerous national committees, has authored over two dozen peer-reviewed papers, and has given over a hundred national and international presentations. Dr. Gorrindo completed his clinical training at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School, and he is a practicing, board-certified child and adolescent psychiatrist in Washington, D.C.

Social workers
As a Jointly Accredited Organization, Optum Health Education is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. Optum Health Education maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 1.00 enduring continuing education credit.
Counselors and/or marriage and family therapists
CA: The Board of Behavioral Sciences has deferred CE course approvals to APA and ASWB for its licensees. See those approvals under Psychologists and Social Workers.
Other States: If your state is not specifically listed, nearly all state Counselor and MFT boards accept either APA or ASWB approval, or are reciprocal with other state licensing board approvals. Check with your board to be sure.
Attendance
A certificate of attendance will be provided to learners upon completion of activity requirements, enabling participants to register with licensing boards or associations that have not been preapproved for credits. To apply for credit types not listed above, participants should use the procedure established by the specific organization from which they wish to obtain credit.
