Understanding the Relationship between Loneliness and Health Outcomes in Older Adults
Activity description
Psychological and sociological factors have a significant influence on how well individuals age. Age-related medical issues can also lead to greater psychological distress, including depression. This can lead to loneliness, which may lead to serious health-related consequences. Social restrictions that some illnesses place upon older adults’ lifestyle can result in isolation and loneliness. This activity will discuss the relationship between loneliness and poor psychological adjustment, social isolation, depression, decreased mobility and cognitive decline.
