Weight-reduction Strategies: When to Use Medical vs. Bariatric Treatments
Activity description
Considering obesity as a chronic medical disease state helps to frame the concept of using optimal clinical management strategies. This includes the use of medical management or bariatric treatments. This activity will focus on optimal medical management strategies for obesity, including bariatric surgery as an effective and long-term treatment for individuals with severe or moderate obesity complicated by comorbid conditions that is not responsive to non-surgical approaches. It will also highlight the importance of a multidisciplinary approach when treating obesity and identify ethical concerns in research and medical practices for obesity.
