Activity description
Major and mild neurocognitive disorders (NCDs) exist on a spectrum of cognitive and functional impairment and can be defined as a group of disorders in which the primary clinical deficit is in cognitive function and is acquired rather than developmental. Identification and management of mild NCD are critical since older adults with mild NCD are at increased risk for progression to dementia. This activity will discuss the spectrum of mild and major NCDs, screening methods and a diagnostic approach. Accurate documentation and coding best practices for both major and mild NCDs and dementia with and without behavioral disturbance will also be highlighted.
