Major depressive disorder diagnosis, management and documentation
Activity description
Documenting psychiatric conditions to ensure correct coding can be challenging. Providers tend to select unspecified appropriate International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (ICD-10) codes for depression rather than selecting from one of the major depressive disorder (MDD) codes that specify severity and remission status. This activity will discuss appropriate screening tools when evaluating MDD and how to assess, diagnose and document the severity, including whether it is active or in remission and if it is a first or a recurrent episode.
