This activity on identity-centered care will delve into the diversity and intersectionality of LGBTQ+ identities and explore how these factors influence health care outcomes. It will focus on identity-centered care and examine strategies to improve patient-provider relationships and enhance patient support and understanding. Case studies will provide the opportunity to practice the real-world application of inclusive approaches and will elucidate the unique needs of LGBTQ+ individuals with the goal of improving the health care outcomes and experiences of this population.

Target Audience

This activity is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners, PAs and physicians who have an interest in the diversity and intersectionality of LGBTQ+ identities and how these factors influence health care outcomes

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Recognize the wide range of identities and experiences within the LGBTQ+ community.
  • Describe how social identities intersect in the context of LGBTQ+ health care and affect patient experiences and outcomes.
  • Discuss the principles of identity-centered care and strategies to implement these principles in a manner that respects and affirms individuality.
  • Identify health care disparities that affect LGBTQ+ populations, especially among people of color and those with diverse gender identities.
