Management Strategies for Heart Failure

Activity description

This activity consists of a recorded presentation from the "Medical Director and Clinician Leadership Forum 2024" held September 23-24, 2024 in Las Vegas, NV. The Forum was designed for medical directors and other clinical executives/leaders working in the managed health care industry.

This presentation will provide an enhanced understanding of the stages and classes of heart failure (HF) progression and the clinical implications of early detection and management. Participants will learn about the latest evidence-based treatments and discuss the evolving landscape of management strategies, including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions. It will also discuss the importance of attempting to identify and correct reversible causes for a worsening of HF and strategies to prevent hospital readmission.

Learning Objectives

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Identify the stages of HF, clinical implications of early detection and management, and current diagnostic tools and biomarkers.
  • Describe current pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic approaches to HF.
  • Discuss how to identify and correct reversible causes for a worsening of HF, such as poor patient compliance, myocardial ischemia, pulmonary embolism, infection or renal dysfunction.
  • Review strategies to prevent hospital readmission for individuals with end-stage HF.
  • Recognize the value of a collaborative approach to continuity of care between in- and outpatient settings for individuals with end-stage HF in relieving their suffering from symptoms such as pain, dyspnea, fear and depression.
