CRISPR-Based Therapies for Genetic Blood Disorders
Join this session to explore updates in genetic therapy for two prevalent hemaglobinopathies: sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia. Breakthroughs in CRISPR-based interventions will be discussed, including their effectiveness, clinical implications, and results from ongoing clinical trials. The genetic mutations responsible for these conditions, along with their underlying molecular mechanisms will be examined. Participants will gain insight into the future of precision gene editing and how these discoveries will potentially redefine the landscape of treatment for hemoglobinopathies and other genetic diseases through effective and personalized patient care.

Target Audience

Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the underlying genetic basis of sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia, including the specific mutations that lead to these hemoglobinopathies.
- Discuss CRISPR technology, including its mechanisms, applications in gene editing and potential for correcting genetic mutations associated with sickle cell disease and beta thalassemia.
