Evolving Strategies and Innovations in Lung Cancer Detection
Activity description
This activity consists of a recorded presentation from the "33rd Annual National Conference" held October 14-16, 2024, in Bloomington, Minn. It is designed to meet the educational needs of nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, psychologists, physicians, PAs and social workers.
This activity will address the pivotal role of early detection in lung cancer and provide an in-depth look at the latest diagnostic advancements, including traditional methods and emerging technologies. Participants will explore a variety of diagnostic approaches, from the gold standard of low-dose computed tomography to innovative techniques such as inhalable nanoparticle sensors paired with urine tests. With a special emphasis on high-risk groups, particularly smokers, the activity will discuss the need for targeted screening to identify lung cancer and aortic aneurysms early. The challenges of accessibility in low-resource settings and the potential impact of new diagnostic tools on health care outcomes will be examined.
Learning Objectives
At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Describe the current standard practices for lung cancer screening and their limitations.
- Evaluate the potential of new technologies in enhancing the early diagnosis of lung cancer and their applicability to aortic aneurysm screening.
- Analyze the significance of early and precise diagnosis in modifying treatment pathways for lung cancer.
- Discuss the implications of emerging diagnostic technologies on lung cancer treatment pathways and how they may potentially affect access to equitable care.
