This activity provides foundational information about health equity. It will define health equity, distinguish equity and equality, explore health inequities and disparities, and identify strategies to advance health equity for the individuals and communities we serve.

This activity will provide participants with an overview of early BC diagnosis and its impact on survival rates. It will explore recently approved therapies for BC both as standalone treatments and in combination with established therapeutic approaches. Emerging therapies and their potential benefits will be examined, and the value of biomarkers will be discussed. Participants will gain insight into treatment strategies to optimize patient outcomes in BC.

The process of advanced care planning (ACP) is widely recognized as a method to support patient self-determination, facilitate decision-making and promote better care. The responsibilities of the clinician are to utilize diagnostic tests, observe vital signs, diagnose illness, administer treatment, provide a prognosis based on treatment progress and document the patient's medical history. ACP will not succeed without effective communication between clinicians and patients, as well as family members and caregivers as appropriate. Existing barriers when engaging patients in ACP may be challenging for health care professionals. This activity will describe the role of the clinician in ACP, identify existing barriers and discuss how to overcome those barriers.
