Tackling Medical Misinformation: Empowering Health Care Professionals to Combat Misinformation and Promote Accurate Health Information

ACTIVITY DESCRIPTION

Medical misinformation has become increasingly prevalent in the general public harming the provider-patient relationship and eroding trust in evidence-based medicine. The session will provide an in-depth exploration of the various types and sources of medical misinformation, such as social media platforms, online forums, and unreliable sources. The potential consequences of medical misinformation on public health, such as the spread of vaccine hesitancy, will be discussed, and participants will come away empowered with additional strategies and tools to more effectively address medical misinformation and promote accurate health information to patients and the wider community.

Target Audience

This activity has been designed to meet the educational needs of dentists/allied dental staff, dietitians, dietetic technicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, PAs, physicians, psychologists, social workers and other health care professionals.

At the end of this educational activity, participants should be able to:

  • Evaluate the potential consequences of medical misinformation on public health, provider-patient relationships, and trust in evidence-based medicine.
